Many of the homeschooling parents have found that with time, their homeschooling teenagers do not follow the values inculcated in them during their homeschooling days. They don’t even respect their parent’s values once they enter teenage. Teenage rebellion has become commonplace, and our culture has responded by expecting less and less of teenagers. It is also seen that many teenagers go against their parent’s wishes to fulfill their own dreams and even get involved with drugs, alcohol, and immorality. They no longer believe in God and hence start living a life of their own judgments.

Many parents believe that they can prevent their children from such rebellion because they feel confident of their parenting approach. There are some critical contributing factors that have led to the destruction of mind of teenage children because of their family-minded parents. Some of these are as below:

Parents have self-centered dreams where their concern for themselves ends up overshadowing love for their children. One of the reasons parents’ homeschool is because they want to accomplish something good in their children. Success in homeschooling requires that academic, moral, and spiritual goals be set.

Making family as the idol results in turning it as a measurement of success. Being an idol requires sacrifice, but normally parents end up sacrificing relationship with their children for the idol of the family.

Parents tend to follow what other families are teaching their children and try to impose those notes on their children. They are disappointed when they compare their kids with the outside forms and merely find any expression of learning in their children.

Many parents have designed their personal standards and believe that it should be followed by everyone else in the family. Many families are marked by pride and judgment and its consequences leave a negative impact on the children as they too are made to judge things out of pride thereby filtering their perceptions to view things.

Parents tend to become authoritative and start molding their kids in the direction where they can become more disciplined, sheltered and behavior oriented. In doing so, parents give their child to maintain high standards for their outside so that their inside is shaped as anticipated. This result in dominating style of parenting that damages the relationship and hinders the ability to truly influence their values.

Over control is also associated with over reliance upon sheltering. Over sheltering your child might be harmful as your children may feel abandoned and lonely since they are protected from children with like-minded families, from secular beliefs and so on. Protecting from temptations and corrupting influences is part of raising children. Every parent shelters to one degree or another. But this line should be drawn according to what actually is required for the child and not what a parent seek for the betterment of their child.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/5 Important Considerations When Determining Whether You and Your Child Are Ready For Homeschooling

Most likely, if you are reading this article, you are exploring the option of homeschooling your child or children. This article covers five important considerations you must make before diving into a homeschooling journey.

Consideration 1: Ask yourself if you can afford to home school. While this is not entirely a full-time job, it does take up a good portion of your day everyday without the benefit of a monetary paycheck. Your reward is the education your child receives which unfortunately, does not pay the bills. Determining if homeschooling is an option within your family budget is a priority.

Consideration 2: Research to find other homeschoolers in your area. Approximately 2 million children are homeschooled in the United States alone, and the numbers are growing rapidly. The internet is a powerful research tool and you can connect with other homeschoolers through online forums. Homeschooling families on forums are only too happy to share tips, and you can find other homeschoolers in your local community to meet with.

Also, if you and your child are on an outing, and you see other children and their parents out and about, do not be afraid to strike up a conversation. Ask if they are also homeschoolers. You never know!

Consideration 3: Remember that homeschooling need not mimic public school in the way of curriculum. Many, if not most, homeschooling families do not follow a set curriculum. Leave the notion that you have to be just like a school teacher behind you, and create your own learning program that best suits you and your child.

Consideration 4: Homeschooling is a family activity and it is perhaps prudent that you don’t make this decision without family input.

Consideration 5: Talk to your kids about taking them out of school. The way you approach this is going to depend greatly on the age of your child. For younger school-aged kids this might be more challenging, as younger children thrive on routine and removing them from school will be initially disruptive. Talk to your child so you can explore their feelings about being at home.

On the other hand, teens are much more easily adaptable and talking to them about learning through real-life experience may appeal to them much more than being in a strict schedule that public school offers.

The Montessori approach to Education is an alternate educational method developed by Maria Montessori during the 1900s. The Montessori approach places emphasis on adopting the child’s learning environment to suit the needs of the child. Education is one of the important branches of our society. When were just a kid we always been told to go to school. Our parent always said that we need education and have a degree in order to survive in this society that we have. Many of us thought that there are only two type of school its either public or private schooling. But many of us now a day are going for homeschooling. Home school have lots good benefits and advantage over the traditional educational methods offered through any of our public school and some of them are the following.

A study shows that the public school systems have not met the needs children with it comes to their educational standard. At homeschooling parents are allows to select the exact lesson plan or curriculum that they think is best for their children. While many public schools teach students subjects which are academically irrelevant or are it best left for the parents to teach.

In public school there are many students and only one teacher or professor. And because of that teacher are having a hard time focusing on each and every student. This makes them accidentally ignore some of the student who is not that active to participate. While in homeschooling parent or tutors are only focus on one or two student. They can always see which subject or student is in need for additional attention.

Homeschooling can control the learning mechanisms which allow the student’s specific interest and desire to grow, while continuing to provide a challenging level of learning that will keep the student learning ability to increase.

Students are provided with good learning tools such are books like workbooks and wordly wise books. Student are given activates using this kind of tools and parents or tutors can easily check it for any wrong answers. With this kind of situation student and parent or tutor can easily see which subject is in need of much attention.

Some students are born gifted and do well with all subjects that are being taught to them. With homeschooling students are given more challenging subject to improve their knowledge. Gifted homeschooled student are able to pursue their interests and development without the time constraints or curriculum limitations that are presents in the traditional learning environment.

Most student who go to any traditional learning environment do see moral and religious subject quiet boring that they didn’t give any attention to those subject. With homeschooling any parent and tutor can easy give books or any Christian Entertainment to make this subject more interesting to students.

Homeschooling also give good relationship between parents and their children. Because of the time and attention a parents as their children tutor can easy make them bond closely. Plus the parent and see the need and attention of each of their children on any subject that their having.

Excessive school bullying is a serious problem to some schools and it is a hard problem to resolve. In some cases like this homeschooling had been the solution to this kind of problem. A child who had been a victim of this kind of problem can undergo into homeschooling to bring back their focus on learning while giving a close parental guidance needed to overcome this kind of situation.

There are lots more benefits of homeschooling and a lot more ways that home school can be accomplished today. Some parents use available textbooks while some use the structured curriculum. Others combine this thing with their own teaching while others teach each lesson completely using their own resources. We can all see that this kind of education process is completely flexible. It can be changes to the student’s needs and can also me increase as to how high the knowledge of a student has. There are many considerations to be made when choosing to home school, but for many, homeschooling has been a good choice that has proven to benefits both children and parents relationship with each other.

One way to get ideas for homeschooling is to look at new products. Create a plan for making individualized products at home. Budget conscious parents often seek after free homeschooling resources. Parents join online and community homeschooling groups to learn methods of locating, making, and trading resources to decrease the cost of homeschooling. Those seeking free resources can also find support from homeschooling bloggers and websites who understand the basic need to control costs in order to afford homeschooling.

One group of homeschoolers who have worked hard at helping parents understand how to reduce and control costs of homeschooling are unschoolers. Unschoolers have advocated child led learning and teaching from the child’s natural environment. This naturally reduces the cost of education. Those who explore the techniques of unschooling can find ways to incorporate new ideas for educational opportunities even if one decides not to adopt all of the philosophy.

The local library provides more resources than many people realize. The most obvious resources are of course books, DVD’s, and audio books. Some libraries offer specific curriculum materials in a variety of formats that parents and teachers can borrow. It is important to ask as often times only teachers are aware of the resources. Interlibrary loan can expand the resources available to homeschooling parents. Parents should ask about museum and other passes. Many offer free passes to visit historical or science exhibits. These visits can provide children with alternate learning methods to add to homeschooling units. Some of these places also offer free learning activities online. Parents should research their resources as well.

The Internet provides a variety of free homeschooling options for parents. Some school districts are providing free online charter schools to parents who want to enroll online. This option provides parents with free curriculum, but does tie parents to a public school curriculum. However, parents seeking free resources can find a wide range of subject and age level materials available online. Homeschooling blogs and websites provide parents with access to resources to use online or to print out and use with lessons. Parents can also get informed about local areas that offer educational opportunities.

Homeschooling, as it is considered in developed countries, is an alternative to enrolling children in private or public schools. For parents who do not approve of materials, educational environment, teachers, or similar other school related things homeschooling might seem as if it is a good fit for children. Although the children are the ones who would be benefiting, the parents would be in charge of teaching them.

This idea intimidates many parents who either do not think they will be able to make the commitment because of work or because they have no confidence in their abilities to be good teachers.

Where these are valid concerns they might also be seen as excuses. If a parent wants to see that their child receives the best education and they are not satisfied with their child’s development, they should consider homeschooling. Parents can make learning fun for children. There is a burgeoning community of homeschoolers and educators for support.

Many people are satisfied with the way children are educated in the twenty-first century. This may be because many children do excel in the current system. Wherever there are success stories there are also the not so successful ones and the stories where children dislike school but go anyway because schooling is compulsory. For these children, homeschooling might be the best option.

There are many choices for homeschooling materials out there to help your child suceed. Homeschooling materials can be found on websites that act as online communities for homeschoolers and their students. Whether the teacher wants to use a curriculum or not, they are available at: educator supply stores, county and state offices of education, encyclopedia companies, homeschooling suppliers, teacher college libraries, and Internet Databases. One of the popular resources that is available for homeschoolers is the Home Education Magazine.

Did you realize that well over one million children take part in homebound schooling on an annual basis? This is an amazing achievement, considering the fact that almost all children went through the public educational process just a few short decades ago. Since that time, however, homebound schooling has become the choice for many parents and children alike for a number of different reasons.

Besides the usual tools like lecturing, textbooks, and workbooks that are used in schools, other things such as the world around your children can be used as educational tools. Homeschooliong materials can be found for free on the internet and the advantage of this is that you can use these as springboards. Remember, what is most important is the needs of the child. For a variety of reasons, many American families are choosing to homeschool their children these days. Reasons that your family may choose homeschooling include dissatisfaction with your local school system or assigned school, religious reasons, special needs of your child, or just personal preference. Whatever the reason you choose this path, there is a wide variety of homeschooling programs to choose from.

Before you begin to homeschool your child, check your state’s requirements. Some states don’t even require that you notify them of your plans to homeschool. Others require that you submit detailed attendance records and test results for your child, or even have a certain level of education yourself. Most states fall somewhere in the middle. Once you’ve determined that you may legally homeschool your child, you’re ready to set up your curriculum.

Homeschooling programs are available for children of all ages, and at all price levels. Some are available online, some are on CD-ROM, and others include printed workbooks. For preschoolers and early elementary aged children, programs that allow you to print worksheets multiple times or ones with erasable printed worksheets are your best choice for the money, as a younger child will need to practice certain things multiple times.

Many homeschooling programs are based heavily on Christianity. However, if such a curriculum is not right for you, there are also many programs that make no mention of religion. Most programs give a timeline in which they should be finished, but in reality you and your child can go through the program at your own pace, unless your state requires otherwise.

Remember that “homeschooling” doesn’t mean “stay at home”. Look into social opportunities for your homeschooled child as well. Many areas have homeschool groups you can join. Your child could join the Scouts or play Little League. Plan educational field trips that go with your curriculum to enhance your child’s learning experience.

As Sir Walter Scott said, “All men who have turned out worth anything have had the chief hand in their own education”. Education is one of the most important process through which a person upgrades his intellect and knowledge in order to acquire the set goals in the career and lead a successful life. Institutions offering education includes schools, colleges, universities and homeschools, however many people practice de-schooling in the process of education.

De-schooling can be described as the process of having some recreational time which is totally off academics while homeschooling through traditional school and lost the desire to learn by making some attempts on his own. De-schooling basically putting the child a bit away from academics, he has already focused a lot on studies and now feels turn off towards studying. The element of enjoyment has lost somewhere and thus process of studying has been a bit monotonous. Here are certain tips for de-schooling your child.

Homeschooling a child is not an easy task. Like the school teachers requires experience before teaching the students, homeschooling also requires experience before teaching the students. The earlier months of homeschooling deals with lots of problems, the reasons may vary from lack of experience to proper filtration of syllabus like that in schools. Adjustments also take time. Time helps each other in understand the learning styles and requirements of both the parents and students. This process makes the students and parents understand each other which in turn make the process of homeschooling easier for both. The first and primmest tip is always staying calm and never giving up.

Sometimes homeschooling may incur different problems doubts in the process of education. The parents and students thought wont gel which may lead to clashes and problems resulting distraction in the homeschooling process. When such instances occur in the homeschooling process, the best suggestion would be just divert the topic and distract the clashes.  Normally during homeschooling one format is followed as we don’t know the other way. However if certain time the format or process is altered with freedom to learn process the problems might be solved without any clashes and may establish a friendly relation between a parent and the child.

While de-schooling you are supposed to give the child as well yourself the proper space to understand each other. It is the process where both comprehend each other to have effective homeschooling. This process enables you to understand the process which is required to be taken care of or if you are actually doing a good job. Make a proper schedule to obtain the information.

While homeschooling, de-schooling is regarded one of the most important aspect. Though every child doesn’t require the homeschooling process however it is regarded as one of the most important aspect to create recreation amongst the children and teachers both. De-schooling offers new dimensions to homeschooling.

Many people opposed to homeschooling think that homeschooled children suffer from a lack of a social life. Surprise! Many homeschooled children have a busier activity calendar than public schooled kids. There are communities of homeschoolers that get together, offering students socialization among kids of all ages. There are also many extra-curricular activities to take part in.

Online Homeschooling Groups

One of our best sources of information is the Internet. Do a search on your favorite search engine for “homeschooling groups” in your area; you’ll find a wide variety that will meet your needs.

Searching without your town or city name will provide you with a list of national groups. You’ll often find great national educational opportunities for homeschoolers by joining these national groups.

Local Home School Groups

No matter what state you live in, there will be local home school support groups that offer great social activities including co-op classes, field trips, fun gatherings and even team sports.

Parents benefit from joining these local home school groups just as much as the children do. Parents can get questions answered, and discuss any roadblocks or successes and the children get valuable socialization with other kids. It’s a great way to learn about local laws, special homeschooling events and find resources you may not otherwise find.

Co-op Classes

A lot of homeschooling support groups offer co-op classes, which are usually taught by volunteer parents. If there is a subject (or maybe 2!) that you either know nothing about, or just don’t like, this is a great way to add it to your child’s curriculum.

4-H Clubs

Modern day 4-H clubs offer so much more than they used to. They now have technology, public speaking, gardening, animals, sewing, science and much more. 4-H clubs offer a wide variety of activities, making it a perfect selection for children with a variety of interests. Once your child is in high school, he or she can take part in the community service projects, which will look impressive on college applications.

Community Sports

Participation in team sports provides children with exercise, helps them learn how to be part of a team and good sportsmanship. It’s hard to find a homeschooling group that offers competitive sports. If you can’t find any, check local recreation centers; they often have community sports that are open to anyone.

Scouts

Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts have forever been a symbol of fun, challenges and team building. Many children make lasting friends in the scouts programs, and they offer a lot of activities that help prepare children to succeed in life.

Venturing is a co-ed adventure oriented scouting program through The Boy Scouts offered for teenagers. It’s about more than just badge earning; participants learn about and practice survival skills, receive a lot of outdoor training and take camping trips.

Contrary to popular belief, homeschoolers are not socially deprived; there are a lot of activities available for homeschooled children and their families. Often, homeschooled students are actually more prepared for the real world, where they will be forced to interact with people of varying ages. Public schooled kids are socialized with children of their own age, while homeschoolers have the benefit of many different aged friends.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/Homeschooling Myths: Popular Homeschooling Myths

Myths about homeschooling abound, either as false assumptions held by parents who send their children to public school, or by parents considering a homeschool for their preschool children ,or even those parents considering pulling their older kids out of public school to start a homeschool.

Many parents may think they are inadequate to homeschool their children because they are not “certified teachers,” not properly trained or qualified for this task. This thinking is linked to a widespread myth about homeschooling: Many people believe that a child learns and studies through a formal curriculum taught in a homestyle “classroom,” the kitchen table, dining room table or bedroom desk, by the parents as teachers.

However, the fact is that while children can learn in this way, they also can and do learn through a myriad of methods. These include formal teaching and lessons done by a parent; activities and get-togethers with the homeschool community and other children; everyday, real-life experiences; independent study time and activity time; helping around the home with chores; family outings, trips and holidays; and more.

As a matter of fact, one of the major benefits of homeschooling is that you as the parent can formulate a tailored “curriculum” for your child using a variety and a combination of resources and ideas instead of relying on prepackaged curriculum. You can be flexible and be in complete control of what your child learns and how they learn. You can also choose the approach of teaching and your own educational philosophies through homeschool depending on you and your child’s styles, preferences, and needs. You may even vary your teaching approaches from day-to-day and from subject-to-subject. Your approach is completely up to you. Studies have even shown that children score extremely high on standardized tests, even though many of them have not been taught formal curricula by their parents.

Another widespread myth about the homeschool life and homeschool families is that children are basically always stuck at home, and consequently become isolated and lack in socialization skills. However, the truth is that children tend to be very active in their homes, neighborhoods, and communities as participants in a plethora of activities including sports teams, volunteering, special classes, private lessons, babysitting, part-time jobs, church events, and clubs.

Homeschooling need not equate isolation. You, the parent, can help your child become involved in society and provide opportunities for social interaction daily. You have the added advantage of having a very flexible schedule, allowing you to do the things you need to do as well as things you’d like to do, whenever it suits you.

Michigan Homeschooling State Laws and Information

This is intended for general information. Check your state Education Department for further advice. Each state has its own general requirements for homeschoooling students. There are four categories of legal options for homeschooling. The four categories are: states requiring no notice, states with low regulation, moderate regulation and high regulation.

Many of the regulations include parental notification, test scores, professional evaluation of student progress and curriculum approval. Michigan homeschooling families shouldn’t be scared off by the general requirements for homeschooling. There may be some initial paperwork to handle but as long as the teaching parent can keep good records there shouldn’t be any fear of the state stepping in and ordering your child back to public school.

The states that have no requirements for homeschooling do not require the parents to initiate any contact to the state Dept. These states include Idaho, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Connecticut, New Jersey and the territories of Guam and Puerto Rico. Parents are not obligated to contact the school districts to notify them that they will be homeschooling their children.

States that have low general requirements for homeschooling require the parents to notify the school district that they are homeschooling their children and nothing else. These states include California, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, Nebraska, Kansas, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Delaware, Washington D.C. and the territory of the Virgin Islands.

Moderately regulated states require parents to send notification, test scores and provide a professional evaluation of the student’s progress. The states in this category include Oregon, Colorado, South Dakota, Iowa, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Maryland and the territories of American Samoa and Northern Mariana Islands.

States with the highest regulations may be the most concerning to parents contemplating homeschooling. These states general requirements for homeschooling stipulate parents have to send notification or achievement test scores, provide professional evaluations of student progress as well as provide a written curriculum that needs to be approved by the state, teacher qualification of the parents and on some occasions visits by state officials to check the student’s progress. These states include Washington, Utah, North Dakota, Minnesota, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. These states have few requirements for the Kindergarten level but the regulations become stricter at each subsequent grade level.

A parent is considered competent to operate a homeschool if they follow the individual state’s regulations; they do not need to have teacher certification. The parents need to file a notice at their local school that they intend to homeschool in the low to highly regulated states. Those that fall within the medium to highly regulated states will also need to keep attendance records, file quarterly reports and a grade narrative for each of the subjects taught. Highly regulated states may require an annual assessment at the end of the school year.

The general requirements for Michigan homeschooling and other states vary greatly from state to state. Parents should be well versed in the legal aspects of homeschooling before they decide to attempt it. Most parents will find that the red tape at the beginning is well worth it in the end.
